The Devil in Miss Jones wound up being the seventh highest-grossing film of 1973, and set new standards for production value and, yes, musical scoring. Alden Shuman's soundtrack wasn't the usual monotonous wah-wah of the time, but a sweeping, panoramic, and plaintive score played by piano and full orchestra.
